How Long Is The Lifespan For dvLED PowerWalls?

In most cases, and with the right service and support, an IGI PowerWall lifespan is at least 100,000 hours (over 10 years), and possibly longer. That is running at 100% brightness 24/7/365, which is not how most are run.

You could go straight to the obvious place: the LED manufacturer’s spec sheet. It will likely say the industry standard for LED lifespan being around 100,000 hours/10 years, almost no system is running nonstop.  Lifespan calculations can also be misleading because they indicate when a diode degrades to half-brightness (not completely dark). Plus, there are many other variables affect an LED display’s lifespan so you can’t rely solely on the number on the diode spec sheet.

Maybe if you keep them hermetically sealed behind glass (like the image above) they will last even longer. Kidding! That said, the right climate control can, and does, affect the lifespan of all AV hardware technology. Climate, Design, Power, and Content can all have an affect on lifespan.

Climate

IGI almost exclusively integrates indoor dvLED PowerWall solutions.  But if you are outside, dvLED diodes are more exposed and will degrade faster in a hot climate than in a cold one. For installations inside buildings, controlling heat and humidity is possible and can help increase lifespan.  Specifically, systems components can suffer damage due to exposure to improper air conditioning/excessive heat. The temperature range for operation needs to be between 32-104 degrees Fahrenheit, and humidity needs to be between 10-80%.

Power

The key aspect of how power can affect the lifespan of a dvLED system is the quality of the display’s power supply (how hard it drives the diodes) .  Other powered  components such as fans and electrical components are also impacted by the power and can have an impact on your dvLED PowerWall lifespan.

Design

One item that affects the lifespan of dvLED PowerWalls begins BEFORE the installation. Airflow is very important, and there needs to be good cooling, which can be affected by design. There needs to be room for heat to flow out of the back through vents (same issue as Climate above).

Content

The lifespan of a dvLED PowerWall can also be affected by the content you feature on the display. If your workflow requires a high level of brightness due to the of variations of the color you use, it can impact the life of the diode. Black has relatively no impact on diodes, so if you have a lot of dark content the affect is minimized. Even if your content is using lots of gray, there is a lower power output than brighter colors, or white, but the affect is minimal. You should configure your dvLED PowerWall to provide the color and brightness desired without worrying too much about lifespan.

Support

Beyond the installation of a dvLED PowerWall, post-installation support to ensure your AV solutions continues to perform the way for the full lifespan of the system is important.  IGI Extended Support guarantees installed equipment continues to operate as it was intended through regular maintenance check-ups and responsive resolution if issues arise. Long-term customer satisfaction is the goal of audiovisual integration, and extended support offers benefits like repair, part replacement, quarterly alignments, calibration and preventative maintenance.
