Commerce, MI (March 17, 2008) – Immersion Graphics, Inc. has announced the completion of a state-of-the-art control room for ITC Holdings' new corporate headquarters building in Novi, MI. ITC, the nation's largest independent electric transmission company, is responsible for the distribution of high-voltage electricity throughout central United States to over 13 million people.
The control room is a mission-critical facility designed to operate 24 / 7 and features a 120' wide display screen in the main control room, plus an additional 40' wide screen in an adjacent training room. Ultimately both rooms will be connected to form a single, continuous screen 160' wide.
According to Immersion Graphics president, Pat Hernandez, the most unique feature of the control room design is the use of multiple Sony SXRD 4K projectors to depict the information on the control room screen. "This is the first control room application that uses new, "4K" projector technology from Sony," says Hernandez. "The image size, brightness and extremely high resolution of these projectors allowed us to use far fewer projectors than if we had gone the more traditional route of display cubes. This also allowed us to eliminate all the window mullions between the cubes, which created a single, seamless image across the entire screen. It also minimizes color balance issues between projectors, greatly simplifies maintenance, and provides a significant cost reduction compared to the traditional display cube approach."
In addition to the control room, Immersion Graphics also designed and installed all the audio / visual equipment throughout the six-story, 188,000 sq. ft. building, including the corporate boardroom, auditorium, cafeteria and various common areas where a network of flat panel informational displays are deployed to facilitate company-wide communications.
Founded in 1998, Immersion Graphics designs, installs and services audio / visual systems for corporate communications and collaboration applications, including conference rooms, boardrooms, design studios, classrooms, trade shows, digital signage and special events.
