Building Production Studios From The Ground Up

We typically come into a virtual production studio project at the time a custom LED wall solution is needed. We were recently asked to help build a brand new production studio from the ground up. Everything from sand bags, to cameras. It has been an interesting project and some of the supplies sure feel like the commodity market as availability fluctuates weekly.

It is a good reminder to the complexity of what a team needs to function properly, and how the actual workflow can differ from team to team, even within the same company. Since most of our customers employ highly skilled professionals, we listen to them when determining what to focus on when we start to put any custom design into motion. This holds true for the smaller hardware tools that fit in a hand to the large scale, high resolution LED visualization displays that we design, engineer, custom fabricate, integrate and support.

As high quality, cost-effective LED technology becomes more readily available, IGI's twenty-five years of experience in advanced visualization systems was always a perfect match for virtual production spaces. Image quality improvements coupled with the pricing made the use of LED walls in production studios a reality.

In addition to the LED technology, many production studios combine direct view LED walls and ceilings with MoCap (motion capture camera systems) and some even use game engine software to render content for playback in real-time, synchronized with the camera’s viewpoint. Filmmakers can easily stage scenes with greater realism than traditional green/blue screens for better decision making on set, while decreasing post-production times. IGI can provide the LED wall structure, motion capture, and video wall processor for any size/configuration needed.

IGI can provide a custom structure using any LED manufacturer. Custom, large-scale, straight or curved, mobile, or motorized LED wall configurations are IGI’s specialized skill set. IGI works with a variety of innovative companies like Epic, Samsung, Planar, ROE and others and integrating LED walls to studios throughout the United States.
